All at Sea

After four months, we were finally able to go fishing! The boat was re-certified and had a new coat of paint,so everyone was looking forward to a good day out on the water,BUT the weather
had other ideas. We set out at 5.30AM, but as soon as we left the port, we knew that it was going
to be a Windy, Wet, Cold and Rough day out.
About one hour after leaving Port, we started to fish, as it was very windy, the Skipper placed the boat in the lee of a couple of islands,to give us some shelter from the wind, but the fish did not think that it was a good place for them,so we moved again, and put up with the wind and the rough seas and the rain,( our wet weather gear came in very handy) but we did catch some fish"I managed four" not a great catch, but it was about the average, and tasted very nice also. We called it a day around 9.30AM
I tried to get a photo of a Seal that decided to snatch a fish off one of the lines rather than catching one by itself, but could not get the camera out in time.

BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME!

Gardeners Pride

The packet said that the seeds would produce "A Giant Tree Tomatoe"

I just had to give it a try,so far they look promising, the tomatoes on the first bunch are quite large and still growing, the packet says that the plant could grow up to 8-9 feet tall! and produce up to 25 Kg of fruit, only time will tell

I will tell you about the fishing trip in the next Blog!
Take care

Here I have two updated photos of the Giant Tree Tomatoe the tomatoes have now ripen and the one I picked weighed 600 grams, the others are still on the vine.

December planting suggestions by request

BeralaPatch recieved a very special request during the week. One of our loyal readers wanted to know what to plant in a very small garden area.

For the month of December, BeralaPatch recommends the following Vegetables for your garden. Beans, beetroot, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, capsicum, carrots, cauliflower, lettuce, onions, parsnips, spinach, swedes, silverbeet and radish.

This month, we will be focusing on gardeners with a VERY small area for planting.
1 row of beans (or 10 – 15 plants) – “Windsor Long Pod”, or “Brown Beauty”
1 row or about 6 plants of spinach
1 row or about 6 plants of lettuce – summer variety
1 row or about 6 tomato plants

If you have any more available space, a few plants of zucchini would not go astray.

When one crop has been harvested it is recomended that you rotate your crops. (i.e - Plant a different species in the same area).

Enjoy your fresh healthy vegetables.

After a few weeks of attending the Raffle at the Club, without a positive result, tonight things were very different, with the very first number called, I won the first Fruit & Vegetables tray, followed by a second Fruit & Vegetables tray some 15 min's later, this was followed by a further win, just before the end, of the Raffle this time it was a Breakfast tray, with different cuts of Meat,Sausages,&Bacon. Looks like I won't have to do much shopping next week!

I will have to give one of the Fruit & Veg. trays away, come to think,it would make a nice present for someone's birthday, specially for someone celebrating a birthday on Sunday.
