My wife and I took a short break in Nelsons Bay, where we stayed with our friends, Salvatore and Gabriella, a very nice couple of days. We returned on Sunday morning, as I was worried about the high temperature and the effect it would have on the plants in the garden, as it turned out, it was a good decision to drive back in the morning,as the freeway was closed in the evening, due to bushfires burning close to the roadway and the poor visibility that went with it. They braved the windy conditions on the beach, but the water was too cold, so they enjoyed the sun instead
Whilst Salvatore and I went fishing for a few hours in the morning,my wife and Gabriella went for a short walk, but it ended up being a bit longer than planned, they walked all the way up to the lookout (on top of the peak on the right hand side of the picture). Meanwhile we caught two fish, Salvatore got the biggest one, but I lost two sinkers and hooks, (as usual) someone always get the biggest one when I am around! But I'll be going fishing again next Sunday, so I get another chance then.
The garden was badly effected by the high temperatures on Saturday and Sunday, and quite a lot of plants were effected, most of the tomatoes exposed to the sun were burned.
This year I bought a packed of "Gourds" seed, six seeds in the packet, five plants came up, and are growing very well, some have fruits, so far only one type seems to be fruiting, the packet said that it contained mix seeds,"Dipper" "Caveman's Club"& "Speckled Swan".
As you can see in the top picture, only the "Caveman's Club" seems to be fruiting at the moment, but the others may come later, we'll wait and see.
I'll keep you all posted on the progress, of the so called "Prehistoric Gourds"
