RECIPE--Onions and Liver

Here is a quick and easy to prepare recipe.

You will need

1- 1/2 Kg. Liver ( Calves)

2- 3-4 Onions

3- Flour

4- Parsley

5- 1 to 2 tablespoons of butter, or margarine

6- Salt and Pepper

7- 3 or 4 tablespoons of oil
____________________________________________________________________

Cut the liver into fairly thin slices, remove as much as of the thin skin around the sliced liver as possible, then cut the sliced liver into thin strips, and coat them with flour " this will prevent the liver strips from sticking together", some place the liver , and flour in a paper bag, and shake the bag, so as to coat the liver with flour, and then removing the excess flour.
____________________________________________________________________

Peel the onions, and slice them into rings

Place a non stick frying pan on the stove, put about half of the butter in the pan, and as it melts, add some oil, then add the sliced onions, and cook them until tender, they will become soft and change colour, Then drain them into a container (so that most of the oil/butter) remains in the pan, then return the pan to the stove, add extra oil/butter, add the liver, and cook over a fairly heat, and stir contents constantly, so that they cook evenly and do not stick together, only cook for a few minutes, or until the liver changes colour, or is nearly cooked, then you add the previously cooked onions to the liver in the pan,add the parsley (chopped) , salt and pepper, cook for a further few minutes (3-4), (if overcooked, the liver tends to go hard).

I prefer that the liver remains moist, but not so much, that it is drowning in the oil/butter mixure

It should be enough for 4 to 6 people

Good luck

By the way you don't have to use Spanish Onions, I just happen to have them handy.

Beginning of a New Year

Yesterday evening, was the start of the new Year, as far as the Club raffle is concerned, and with the Dooleys Club renovations almost finished, the Club looks a lot better, even if we all have to learn to find our way around again.
There were lots of prizes to start the Raffle again this year, and lots of patrons in the club, but we missed out on a prize; the Fishing Club held its AGM, to officially transfer the presidency to the new President "Tony", Adam had already decided to take it easy, and concentrate on the inportant task of fishing .Unfortunately the Boat that we usually use to go fishing, is not available for this month, as it is being used for the "Blessing of the Fleet", in Wollongong Harbour on the 27th. of January.

So our next outing will be on the 24th. of February.

Here are most of the Fishing Club members, there were 3 of the regular members missing.

See you all again soon

German Technology...or a Miracle

Usually Television sets don't take too kindly to been dropped! Ours decided for some unknown reason to fall down from the usual place where it has been sitting (quite happily) for a few years, and come crashing down on to the tile floor, as you can see all the ornaments-lamps that were sitting on top of the television , were all smashed, but when we finally put the set back on to its stand, and switched the power back on (I had unplugged the power supply before moving it) to my surprise, the set worked, and it is still working as good as ever.
Is it due to good luck, a miracle, or just good workmanship and design on the part of its german
manufactures ?
Looking forward to many more years of TV viewing!

A New Start for 2008

After a nice Christmas Day, spent with some members of the family (the rest were in Beijing for Christmas and New Year) and a quite New Years eve, we are now back to normal (almost). The raffle at the normal Club has been in recess 'till Friday next, January 18th., on that date we will also be holding our Fishing Club AGM and we will be installing a new "Club President", our present president will be retiring, and "Tony" will be taking over, but Adam won't be putting his fishing rod away just yet, at 85 years, he felt it was time to let someone else do the hard work!As we are having one of our grandsons staying with us for a few days, we went out for dinner, to RSL Club at Bass Hill, and whilst there I bought some Raffle tickets, and had some luck, winning two prizes, a "meat tray" and a "fruit basket" it could be a good omen for the rest of the New Year.
The "Better" half, did not take any photos on her trip to Hong Kong and Beijing, but our I hoping to receive some of the photos taken by the rest of the group, including some taken on The Great Wall. Eileen went up 356 steps! Is that a fair feat? I haven't been, so I don't know if I would have done more.
I wish all the readers of this Blog, a very Happy New Year, and happy reading for 2008.
Best Wishes
